Austin Tribe Meeting Schedule
Hi Ed
What days are the meetings in Austin as I couldn’t find a current calendar on your website.
Thanks
|
Thank
you for asking about the Austin Tribe, that I plan to host as a series
of ten 5-hour, Thursday-evening meetings, over a period of about 6
months. I can announce a more definite schedule when I receive commitments from about 8 people. |

Entry Points
Hello Ed,
Skills
I may contribute: Over the past 10 years as a credit analyst, I have
developed a solid awareness of the challenges associated with assessing
the financial stability of organizations.
My goal
for the association are: I don't have any specific trading expertise or
experience. Sincerely, I want to make long-term wealth for myself. Even
though I have already started working on myself, I am confident that
your extensive experience and accomplishments will be extremely helpful
in directing my comprehension and aiding in my development as a trader.
I believe trading is the only profession that allows you to work for
yourself while still receiving fulfilment.
I
might think about using Tribe as an entry point to express your
feelings: I've tried doing that a few times, but the messages are
typically not answered. The most recent message was sent in January-23,
and it was also not returned. Although I appreciate your idea, I
believe communication should be collaborative rather than
namesake.
Sincerely,
|
Thank you for letting me know my suggestion to "Take Feelings to Tribe as an Entry Point" lacks clarity.
The Tribe, in this context, means your local Tribe - with which you meet in person and trade turns working on issues - and access these issues through an "entry point."
You
may send reports about Tribe Meetings to FAQ (this website). You may
also raise other issues here, as well as simply check in from now and
again.
For more information on the Basics of The Trading Tribe, see the link, above.

Disappointment
You won’t be disappointed Ed, I can assure you that.
|
To
your letter of February 17, 2023 asking me to mentor you, I reply:
Thank you
for asking about an apprenticeship.
I wonder if
you can tell me what particular skills you might bring with you - and
what intention you might have for the association.
Meanwhile,
you might consider taking your feelings about <taking
responsibility> to Tribe as an entry point.
You might consider taking your feelings about <listening
carefully and responding directly> and <managing other
peoples' feelings> to Tribe as entry points.

Writing a
Novel Featuring the Trading Tribe
Hi Ed
Thanks for your email. I would absolutely love to attend some Tribe
meetings so I can be as accurate and authentic as possible.(And, also,
explore my own feelings and emotions as you say) I wouldn't want to put
out anything that didn't have your approval.
The only issue is that I live in the UK and have two small children, Do
you have meetings throughout the summer? You're in Austin now, right?
Let me see what I can do.
Thank you

Thank
you for sharing your process.

Govopoly
Ed,
I read Govopoly slowly and with an open mind. Along the way, I
experience many aha moments. I let go of sensations that seem to relate
to hope for a knight in shining armor. I see economies in a different
light, and understand the cycles on a deep and intuitive level.
I feel my commitment to my trading increase as I see the value of this
skill with greater clarity. I begin a higher level of commitment to
improving my skills. As a result, I spend more time observing my inner
world and delight in the feelings that I experience from moment to
moment. I see that the sensations In my body direct my attention and
that my beliefs are inextricably linked to the outcomes I experience.
My trading results improve.
I carry a knowledge of the ways in which I control the reality I live
in. I understand that I create reality here and now. The world changes
in an instant if it is what I desire. In the non existent past, there
is a "just out of reach me" that grapples with self limitations. I have
these experiences, and I become the unlimited version of myself now,
and I am confident that I keep feeling this way.
Thank you Ed.

Thank
you for sharing your experience of reading Govopoly.

Wants Help
I am still waiting for an email from you but so far nothing has
happened. Is it no longer possible to help me?
Yours sincerely,

Thank
you for reaching out to me.
The Trading Tribe promotes personal and spiritual growth through
intentional community in which people treat each other with love,
respect and kindness.
Your request for tuition to a school that does not exist does not
qualify as an act of love, respect and kindness.
You might consider the notion that prosperity naturally flows to those
who follow the principles.

Intergating
Investing with Living
Hi Ed,
Thanks again for chatting a week ago. I had a lot to think about as it
totally changed my trading approach. {My wife] and I had to
re-calibrate our next steps to start thinking about how to invest
without pulling winners to pay for our other expenses (living expenses,
mortgage & saving for children in the future).
Trading Follow-up:
Compounding interest: I created a
spreadsheet that factored in a portfolio growth of 7% and saw that if
invested, you make an additional ~3% for inflation. This triggered me
to re-evaluate pulling profits for living expenses.
% of income to save for investing: We
agreed on saving 20% of our income.
A question I am continuing to think
about: How do you know when to hold or continue riding a wave? Is it
new resistance levels, volume, and fundamental company analysis?
I started looking at 13F filling to find
when large companies are purchasing 5% or more than a share, before it
comes out in the news cycles.
My future plans:
{My previous employer] severance ends
August 30th, then I will have paid unemployment through the end of
January, 2024.
With the Company stock + 401k transfer
to IRA + crypto, we will have around $100,000 total portfolio to start
with. This doesn't account for other assets we have such as the house
and the property in Mexico. Also, we are completely debt free (equity
of house outweighs remaining loan).
Instead of going back to work
immediately, I will hold through the unemployment period to spend time
in our property in Mexico, relaxing, and to continue learning. The goal
is to set ourselves up to investment with real money starting in 2024+
Companies have already been reaching
out, so I think finding work in 2024 will come easily, just need to
determine what industries and role I will be aiming for
Next steps:
This week, we all go camping through
Friday (5/26) so I will not be trading.
Week of 6/5 - I will begin paper trading
again, and sending the same updates, with price charts, risk
assessments along with V1 of the new strategy.
Sincerely,
|
Thank
you for checking in.

Greetings
from Ancient Ephesus
Dear Ed,
I've recently ordered your book from Trading Tribe website and it was
delivered safe and sound to the small town of Selcuk where I've been
living with my family for the last 5 years. It is located in Izmir
province on the beautiful Aegean Coast of Turkey, right beside the
ancient city of Ephesus and remnants of Artemis Temple, one of the
Seven Wonders of the World.
I browsed through it and read the introduction and have to say, it is
indeed very different from any other books regarding markets or
anything for that matter, hence it requires a very focused reading so
its contents will have the most profound impact on the reader. Or so I
think.
I first came across your philosophy in Market Wizards book and Michael
Covel's audio podcast and subsequent reading of his Trend Following
book. Then I listened to one-of-a-kind Whipsaw Song on youtube. The
points you've made in all these are simple and straightforward and I
doubt they can be stated using better language or more vivid
metaphors/allegories.
We do seem to get what we want from everything and everybody in this
life. It is all about what we want exactly. Zig Ziglar's metaphor
describing goals as targets which you can't hit if you don't see or
don't have them resonates well with your idea that whenever one finds
its calling or true burning desire, Nature seems to cooperate on
helping this person to achieve it, i.e. succeed.
I wish we could meet in person, either in the USA or Turkey. If you
ever decide to visit the area where I live (if you haven't in the
past), please let me know. I believe you are living near Lake Tahoe.
I've been there once and loved it to bits. Maybe if I get myself
together and use my athletic potential to the fullest, I will be able
to come in 2024 to race Western States Endurance Run and visit it
again.
Thank you for your guidance and relentless energy to experience and
enjoy life as well as share your observations with others,
Best Regards,
|
Thank
you for checking in and for commenting on The Trading Tribe.
I currently reside in Austin, TX.

Clearness
Committee
Hi Ed,
It was good chatting with you today. Below is an excerpt from the book
I was talking about. What you described this morning sounded a lot like
this Quaker tradition to me. The book is called "Let Your Life Speak:
Listening for the Voice of Vocation” by Parker Palmer.
Here’s the excerpt:
I was offered the opportunity to become
the president of a small educational institution. So as is the custom
in the Quaker community, I called on half a dozen trusted friends to
help me discern my vocation by means of a “clearness committee,” a
process in which the group refrains from giving you advice but spends
three hours asking you honest, open questions to help you discover your
own inner truth.
Halfway into the process, someone asked,
“What would you like most about being a president?” The simplicity of
that question loosed me from my head and lowered me into my heart.
“Well, I would not like having to give up my writing and my teaching….
I would not like the politics of the presidency…. I would not like….”
Gently but firmly, the person who had posed the question interrupted
me: “May I remind you that I asked what you would most like?” I resumed
my sullen but honest litany, “I would not like having to give up my
summer vacations…. I would not like….” Once again the questioner called
me back to the original question. But this time I felt compelled to
give the only honest answer I possessed. “Well,” said I, in the
smallest voice I possess, “I guess what I’d like most is getting my
picture in the paper with the word president under it.”
I was sitting with seasoned Quakers who
knew that though my answer was laughable, my mortal soul was clearly at
stake! They did not laugh at all but went into a long and serious
silence— a silence in which I could only sweat and inwardly groan.
Finally my questioner broke the silence with a question that cracked
all of us up— and cracked me open:
“Parker ,” he said, “can you think of an easier way to get your picture
in the paper?” I called the school and withdrew my name.

Thank
you for following up on our conversation and for sending me the excerpt
from the "Clearness Committee."

Wants a Job
Dear Mr. Seykota,
I hope you are doing well and enjoying PR if you are still there!
I am wondering if you know of anyone who is looking to hire a quant
trader or similar position.
I transitioned into a more passive investment strategy over the past
year due to lack of smallcap intraday activity and wanting to focus on
some creative projects. I am currently working in blockchain
cyber-forensics, but am interested in returning to trading in an
institutional environment if the opportunity arises. I now have my SIE
and have been intermittently studying for Series 65.
Best,
|
Thank
you for reaching out to me.
I now live in Austin.
I can let you know if I hear of someone who might wish to hire you.

Funnymentals
Dear Mr Seykota,
Sorry to bother you again. You won't remember me but I sent you the
above email 2 years ago (See Jan 10, 2021). I am now 21 and remain
fascinated by financial markets. I am emailing you as I would love to
get a snippet of your wisdom.
Over the past few months, I have been unable to shake the view that
commodity and energy markets are wildly mispriced. As someone who built
a career trading these markets, I would love to know if you share this
opinion.
Here are my thoughts.
Oil seems to be completely disconnected from fundamentals. The market
is so busy pricing in a recession and seems tone-deaf to a decade of
underinvestment, huge inventory drawdowns and OPEC's discontent with
current prices. This doesn't seem sustainable to me.
If any of the goals from the Paris Agreement are to come to light,
Copper, Lithium and Graphite supply chains need to be strenghened on a
monumental scale. Even if this is possible, global supply seems
fundamentally too low to match projected demand.
In my opinion, Nuclear and Geothermal will have a far higher share of
the global energy mix than currently anticipated. If that is right,
investment in uranium and the many minerals required for large-scale
geothermal needs to rise.
From where I am standing current prices are not sustainable in the long
run. Sure, it makes sense in a recession but at some point we are going
to have to start investing in energy security.
When compounded with geopolitical tensions and green energy
transitions, there already seems to be a growing incentive to invest in
these industries. We are seeing this from reshoring in the US and
growing appetite for friendshoring (ie Apple moving to India). Is this
not a multiyear trend that will feed through to commodities and energy?
As someone who knows a lot about this space, I would love to know your
thoughts on this. Are you as concerned about global supply chains and
low commodity prices as I am? What am I not seeing?
Completely understand if you are too busy to get back to me on this.
All the best,
|
Thank
you for sharing your analytics for the petroleum markets.
You might consider if you prefer analyzing the markets or making money.
You might consider taking your feelings about <having to
analyze> to Tribe as an entry point.
