Wants to Contribute to TSP

Hi, Mr.Ed,

I have already had a call with [your associate] sorry to hear that you can not understand my English very well...

Well, below is summary of conversation withVincent:

1. He and I and share some basic background information of each other. Then he asks what is the reason I contact you and what help do I need, I tell him that my final goal is to develop my own trend trading system (futures first, and then stocks) and I see TSP as a great opportunity to support the achievement of my goal.

2. I self-teach Python and read books to gain some knowledge of trading, so now I think now I have the capable programming ability to test some trading ideas and conduct rigorous research.

3. I am very interested in 2 topics in TSP page, dynamic risk modification and dymamic portfolio selection, I want to figure out what they mean and how they contribute to a trading system's performance/how they play their role in a trading system, but despite my efforts, I made little progress on these 2 topic.

In order to achieve my goal and go ahead, so I reach out for help to see if Mr.Ed can provide some research direction or some research idea and I would conduct the study and experiment to find out some helpful conclusion which would enhance my trading system, at the same time, we can also finish TSP also.

You might consider reading through the studies on the TSP site and then coming up with a topic to investigate.

I can not log in nor ever receive any responses to attempting to sign in or join.

Does someone correspond live with these inquiries?

I see someone listed in Spencer Iowa as a group I think.

Can I contact the Tribe leader as I would be more than willing to drive the 3 hours to get there and participate in a meeting.

I have studied the book and want to do more.

Wants a Mentor

Hello Ed,

I feel encouraged to write you post reading about you in a lot of publications.

I love to know that you did not wish to pass on the responsibility of your victory or defeat to anyone else.

Last few years I have been feeling the same way but whenever it comes to making a decision, I can't push myself, maybe enough.

There is a conservative mindset behind this, or an unknown fear of not causing any harm to my family because of my deeds.

It has been more than 10 years since I have been working with corporates but the satisfaction, I am looking for is probably far away from me.

For some time, I have been trying to read trading related material to understand what is right and wrong for me.

After some introspection, I come to the conclusion that if I still do not take any decision, then maybe I will not be able to bring back the lost time and opportunities and equity trading is an area which excites me.

I have opened a trading account although a bit late at 39.

While reading about you, gives me some glimpse about your personality.

I was hesitant at first whether to write or not but finally decided to write you a message.

I request you to make me one of your mentees.

I am committed to work hard.

We too have two huge exchanges (BSE and NSE) and I believe that there is a lot of potential here.

If this is possible then I will be indebted to you.

I am not writing anything about me here because I feel that intention cannot be stated in words and other things are probably meaningless.

I wonder if you can tell me what particular skills you might bring with you - and what intention you might have for the association.

Trend-following systems generally follow several instrument to incorporate diversification and reduce portfolio volatility.

You might consider taking your feelings about <wanting to trade only one instrument> to Tribe as an entry point.

Completes His Back Testing

Hi Ed,

I came across your FAQ by means of a serendipitous encounter with someone who linked it to me and I wanted to share that reading through it helped me get back on track with my trading system development.

Several months before, I basically went off on a tangent (basic fundamentals) and felt it was necessary before resuming.

Your repeated messages about simplicity gave me the confidence to stick with a simple approach and get back to back testing and coding it.

It will be a while before I can really see how the system’s trades perform, of course, but even still I’m just glad that I finished the back testing and got comfortable with the results.

Core-Specific Risk Sizing

Hi Ed,

Happy new year.

I read your book TTP and it was very helpful to on handling my emotions and reiterating the rules of trend following trading.

I still have one more question which is ,

"When trend is reversing from bear to bull, lot of buy signals start to pop up and when I have 10000$ to invest, my position size is huge for first 5 or 10 handful (of course based on ATR and my risk %) of signals since all my money is not invested.

My question is, will this system be able to allow me to place 50+ trades as my equity size reduces as I entered into those 5 or 10 big trades " or How can I afford to all signals that my system may produce with limited equity ?

Thank you for raising this issue.

You might consider using Core-Specific Position Sizing.

For example, say you wish to risk 0.5% of your $10,000 equity on your first trade.

That comes to $50.

After you place the trade, you deduct your open risk from your equity so you now have a "core" equity of $9,950.

For your next trade, you risk 0.5% of your core or $49.75.

In this way, you can take as many positions as you please, without exceeding your equity.

You might consider asking your Guru for materials about his strategy to attain enlightenment.

Study those materials carefully as they can also apply to trading.

If the above does not seem to apply to you, you might consider taking your desire for materials to Tribe as an entry point.
