Questions
Dear Sir,
I'm a long standing admirer / equity investor.
May I ask a few questions..?
1. Which chart patterns do you think are the most reliable?
2. I find value orientated fundamental analysis combined with technical
to be
the most rewarding ...variant perception themes can be as good as growth
themes?
|
1. Chart patterns are not
reliable. Traders are reliable.
2. I don't understand the
question.

Pumps and Valves
Ed, is the following a fair comment:
People with k-nots don't feel feelings in the area of the knot. They
don't know why dramas are happening, they just end up seeing the drama,
and being angry or annoyed with it. They might start blaming other
things / people for the drama.
Fred is the feelings pump. He tries to pump feelings to the CM. But in
between there is a valve. This valve reflects the person's unwillingness
to feel the feelings. This could be because they've been taught by life
that the feelings are bad, or that you should not feel a certain way.
They close the valve. But eventually this leaves them vulnerable. It
leaves their shields down in a certain area, ultimately leading to
possible massive expression of Fred feelings via a drama, causing the
relief valve in the line to blow open. |
Yes, that's one way to
connect the pipes.

MNX
Ed,
Every morning I look into the non-existing future, hoping today is the
day Ed posts a date certain for the Austin workshop.
Then suddenly last week, in the non-existing past, the flashing promise
"Coming Soon" disappears altogether.
Nonplussed, I click the Workshop link and read the expired Reno
announcement. I click Breathwork and go back to the future, August 4-6.
I Google "Ed Seykota + new workshop." No joy.
I am overcome with feelings of loss. If I could have some reassurance
that the Austin workshop is still on, I could have some surcease from
these unwelcome feelings.
And if I had some ham, I could have some ham and eggs, if I had some
eggs. |
Thank you for your interest.
I am currently developing materials
and writing a book. Keep watching these pages for
further information.

Being There
Hi Ed,
Last week I watch a rerun of the film 'Being There'. What a great film!
The lead character 'Chance', played by Peter Sellers seemed to live most
of his life at the 'Zero Point'.
I think we would make the perfect trader.
In fact there are many great trading related quotes in the film:
"Let us not fear the inevitable chill and storms of autumn and winter,
instead, let us anticipate the rapid growth of springtime, let us await
the rewards of summer. As in a garden of the earth, let us learn to
accept and appreciate the times when the trees are bare as well as the
times when we pick the fruit"
And of course the last line in the film "Life is State of Mind." |
In the closing scene, Chance
walks on water. It's fairly easy to do once you know where the "rocks" are.

Chinese TTP Translation
Ed,
I wonder if you have a link to the Chinese translation of TTP. Many Chinese abroad
are very interesting in reading it.

Moving Forward
Last Wednesday, I am speaking with my boss. I am
telling him that the goals of [Company] are not in line
with my career goals. He is trying to convince me
that I have a lot of potential at the organization and
the financial opportunities are excellent. I am
unconvinced and tell him that I wish to resign on
Friday. He reluctantly agrees.
Last Thursday, I am speaking with my girl friend. She is
telling me how she misses having me in her life. She
says that she misses our speaking, laughing, and
sharing our lives together. She is telling me that
she is scared that our friendship will not remain.
I
feel angry that she thinks of me as her friend. I
feel frustrated that she thinks of me as her friend.
I feel frustrated that she is unwilling to think of me
as her boyfriend; she is unwilling to experience the
emotions of feeling that I am “the one.” My reaction
to her feelings is withdrawal. I am unwilling to feel
close, unwilling to share with her. I feel that the
relationship is unbalanced as a result of her
unwillingness to experience her emotions. I feel less
and less of a need to communicate and connect with
her. This makes me feel confused about my feelings
towards her.
On Friday, I collect my personal belongings. I say goodbye to my
co-workers. My boss encourages me
to keep in touch. I walk out the door and I feel
overcome with the emotions of leaving an unsatisfying
situation for the unknown. I am holding back my
tears. I take the subway home and I start to cry. I
feel sad leaving an organization where I have in the
past been learning and achieving success. But, I
remember how unsatisfying I am feeling working there.
On Saturday, I wake up anxiously excited to
concentrate all of my efforts on developing a trading
system. I begin outlining a
development plan, including all the goals I want to
achieve. |

Joy Point
I do not see this definition, on Glossary page. The term appears on the
March FAQ page. |
The Joy Point is an ecstatic and
blissful state similar to the Zero Point senders experience after
cathartic abreaction of an intense form.
In the Rocks process, we arrest the
development of the form before it goes to term. In this way, we can
associate resources with the form.

Bliss
is what remains

Risk of
Winning
Dear Ed,
I trade a trend following system since last 3 years with full discipline.
I recently experienced a drawdown of over 40% but I took all the signals
without any second guessing. After I had suffered 40% dip in my equity
the market gapped open 3% below my entry price.
I was unable to put the position at that price since my risk parameter
were not allowing me to put on that trade.
That "Unable" trade became
the largest move of the year. Theoretically that trade would had covered
all the losses and put me in profit.
As a experienced System Trader you must have also gone through such
pains, I make a humble request to show some light on how to deal with
such situations. |
You might consider re-sizing your
position to comply with your risk budget.

No One To
Play With
Ed Says:
The Tribe is essential to the Trading Tribe Process.
The DIM (Do It Myself) process and even one-on-one therapy with a
skillful therapist has limitations.
You might consider what is standing between you and forming a Tribe in
your area and / or attending a Workshop.
Some things work better
in community with others.
I have already considered.
What is standing between me and forming a Tribe in my area: lack of
people interested in doing the work.
In other words, lack of
"liquidity". Since I put my e-mail on the Tribe directory only three
people have contacted. Only two were interested in Tribe work and yet
they lived far away from my area. And so I encouraged them to form their
own tribe in their area.
What is standing between me and attending a Workshop: money.
Whatever I am attending other communities such as church and a folklore
dancing group. Incidentally I have found myself that I too put great
emphasis on community living and sharing. So I am eager to participate
in those which suit me best and 'are available in my area'. In a sense I
agree with you that a not just some but a lot of things work better in
community with others. |
Thank you for sharing your process.

Addiction
Drama
is another form of medication
typically, to mask sadness.
I find this remark to resonate with me. I don’t medicate with alcohol in
the way I used to; it looks like Drama has taken its place.
The over whelming feeling I have even during the ‘good times’ is
sadness. Like when you’re at a party and in a quiet moment you feel a
certain wave of sadness but you can’t put your finger on why.
I guess melancholy is the word that perhaps describes my underlying
feeling most accurately.
I wonder why I am not prepared to feel this sadness fully till the K-not
dissolves. Perhaps I enjoy it? Perhaps I’m scared of what lays the other
side of an AHA?
My guess is a lack of confidence through losing money trading and
feelings surroundings my parents divorce might point to the where I’ll
find the K-nots.
Still TTP is no cure for unwillingness so I guess addressing this is the
place to start.
For now, I’ll continue to enjoy the now till such times as I decide I
want it to feel differently.
Many thanks for sharing your insight.
I look forward to reporting on trading progress at the end of the month.
I’d like to ask whether have you taken the idea of TTP specifically in
to areas of addiction?
It seems to work with day trading and as I see
problems with people medicating through gambling, eating, not eating,
drinking, illegal drugs, spending, I feel it could well be useful for
many people.
Television programs over here in [Country] seem addicted to addiction as I
suppose most viewers are addicts and it’s what they want to see.
I have a vision of a small TV crew filming you working with a tribe of
addicts and helping them dissolve k-nots through TTP. The results I’m
sure would surpass many conventional approaches. TV would be the
quickest way to spread the wonder of TTP (If you could stop the drugs
firms and ‘professionals’ from steeling the reel of film). |
The dynamics of chemical dependency
mirror those for behavioral addiction. In theory, TTP can work for
alcoholics and drug addicts.
The tricky part is that chemical
dependencies can scramble the brain. Chemical addicts may not be
able to muster the willingness to engage TTP.
Some treatments for heroin-family
addiction begin with replacement therapy. Methadone in low regular
doses avoids the sharp "spikes" that damage the brain.
We are seeing some reduction in
alcohol and tobacco consumption in Tribes where the users are casual
users and not hard addicts.
