Yes.
We
all tend to see whatever we see.
Objective
truth is highly subjective.
Trends,
in particular, are not objective. They depend on subjective factors,
such as personal preference in choosing smoothing factors.

First Meeting
Dear Ed,
The [City] Tribe met last night for the first time in 2 -3 (?)months. We
seem to have resolved the drama that was keeping us from communicating and
meeting. One "partial member" (hotseat only) has dropped out. We
are still two members and both are capable receivers.
Next meeting is set for one week from last night and my desire is to meet
weekly, if agreeable with my partner.
Intend to write up a hotseat and meeting report soon.
Thank you for the trading tribe!!

OK.

Entry into TTP/
Intention
Ed,
In the reply to post on Sun, Jun 19 2005 "NOW" you say: "To
manifest your result try putting some tension in your intention". How
do I put tension in my intention?
|
Thank
you for the correction.

Hold 'em and
Fold 'em
Hi Ed,
I am really hanging on to my snapshot of “Letting go.”
I enjoy both hanging on and letting go. There is a cool spot where they feel
like one. I am bringing that feeling to the Tribe next week.

Global
Economic Collapse
Per an interview
on [TV]
[Famous Economist] said that he's worried about the speculative bubble in
housing and the fact that more than 1/4 of all consumer spending is now
sustained by that bubble, plus the fact that 20 million citizens could lose
their homes in a collapse of the speculative bubble in housing, and that the
Fed and, indeed, central banks worldwide would act in concert out of
desperation to re-inflate the global economy in the process, creating an
inflationary spiral unheralded in the economic history of the planet.
"Where does it end?" [Economist] was asked and he said,
"Utter global collapse." Not simply economic collapse; complete
disintegration of all infrastructure and of all public structures of
governments. Utter, utter collapse. That the end is collapse of simply epic
proportion.
In 10 years time, he said, whoever is still alive on the planet will be
effectively starting again."
[He] blamed everything on what he calls [The Regime].
He says "they have now consolidated power and money on the planet to
the maximum extent possible. The planet's net liquidity, that is its, net
free cash flow. Is now a negative number. The planet is not simply sinking
into a sea of red ink; it is already sunk. The people just don't realize it
yet."
[He] says [The Regime] is preparing the nation for transition from democracy
into dictatorship because a dictatorship will be necessary to control, in 5
years´ time, food and water riots."
He said [the government] is going to have to build now huge detention
compounds on federal lands, probably in the West where the land is
available, to potentially house 50 million or more citizens that will be in
financial ruin."
[He] went on to say "Food production will fall. Any further effort to
control environmental destruction will be abandoned. Inflation will run into
the double and eventually triple digits. People will be carrying around U.S.
dollars in wheelbarrows like Germany."
[He] said there would be "total collapse of public infrastructure.
Total collapse of medical care systems. All public pension plans, Social
Security will collapse. All corporate pension plans will collapse."
[He] backed up his comments with statistics in one statement he said
"But, 14% of all real estate transactions now being interest-only
mortgages, and another 14% of people now, that, when they bought their
homes, originated more than 100% of the purchase price in the mortgage and
then borrowed further."
He said "The American consumer is effectively now supporting the rest
of the planet, consumption rates in all other nations are falling, have
fallen to the point that the tax revenues to governments, that the business
and industries those nation states are providing is now a net negative
number relative to total debt service and public cost, that this exists in
virtually every nation state on the planet now."
He said "More importantly, and I'm trying to think how we imply this or
how we express this to the people, what extraordinary times we are living in
and how the destruction of the planet has been engineered by [The Regime]
which has effectively destroyed the economic liquidity of the planet."
When ... the interviewer said "you have sold all of your real estate
and you are moving into one of the new super-secure [compounds] for when the
´barbarians will be at the gate.´
[He] replied "those barbarians will be potentially a third of the
American population."
[He] ended his comments by saying that "he hopes that he is not alive
to see this. The lucky ones are the ones who are my age now." |
Note
to Readers: the "interview" to the left is apocryphal - likely a
synthesis of an interview plus some editorial opinion.
If
inevitable doom brings up strong feelings for you, you might take them to a
Tribe meeting to sort out their positive intentions.

Is a day chart
different than an hour chart with ratio in mind?
Hello Ed,
I have been zooming in and out of charts and they seem to be the same and
only deferent in ratio; isn’t trading systematically a lesser price
frame provide a higher compounding rate? I am not talking about trading
a tiny price frame, but maybe what matches our equity so that one can track
daily or program into a trading system.
Ed, I have to mention what I said in my previous emails, beware of using “TIME”
in trading, the only reliable mechanical part is the price and the only way
to measure or trade a trend is to split it up into numeric price intervals,
and time may not in any way determine the break-out or interval length, also
price volatility cannot be measured because prediction is impossible, yet
profit/loss volatility of the various traded securities can be used to
balance the trading sizes between traded securities which leads to decrease
equity volatility at account level by reducing risk at volatile securities
while profitable securities are trending.
The point is that Time does not make money; therefore logically we may
remove it from the trading system. Does it matter if the price moves from A
to B in 1 day or 20 days? Logically it doesn’t because even the
stop-losses on the way do not depend on time; they depend on the price
movement.
Sorry to use non-compliant TTP language, I am working on my SVO-p slowly.
|
Higher
frequency trading suffers from transactions costs that do not decline
proportionately to the reduction in move size.

The
Best Move in Many Endeavors
is,
mostly, doing nothing.

Possibility of
Changing Behavior
Dear Ed,
I have read with interest your Q&A on the Trading Tribe website over the
past two years. I also read the first chapter of your new book on the
website. Both are very interesting!
My question is this:
Is it really possible for one to stop recurrent cycles of behavior, to
change ??? |
Everything
changes and adapts, as part of survival. TTP is a technique to facilitate
adaptation.

Adaptation
Rarely Occurs by Force
It
is typically more subtle,
a
matter of intention and grace.

Likes to Talk
Hello Ed,
Fred and CM way of communicating seems vague to me, maybe my feeling of
vague derives from CM unwilling to experience understanding things which
produces the feeling of vagueness.
When some chemicals in our brains are going from one form to the other in a
natural way yet they get interrupted by an outside event and maintain state
which keeps affecting us when the situation is deferent but the feeling is
still there. Maybe for example I have a car accident and suffer pain, I may
not drive a car again because I don’t want to experience danger, years
later Fred may expose me to dangers in other situations trying to
communicate the feeling of danger, the solution maybe simply to drive a car
again and experience danger while weighing achievement over danger, just
like how we assess risk in trading, we count the profit/loss ratio and not
profits or losses separately.
Actually, maybe lying does the same thing. For example, if someone calls
office saying he is sick while he is just lazy then Fred will try to
communicate pain but of course it can’t because there is not physical
pain, years forward he may experience Fred trying to communicate pain by
unconsciously directing to physical danger. The cure for lying is to act
truthfully causing the feeling of pain to be moved from Fred to the
conscious mind by telling the truth. What I mean is that CM may not accept
what is not there, like pretending being in pain causing Fred to keep trying
to feel it.
I have heard that we can be our own enemy but never fully understood how it
works, it’s actually the feelings we don’t communicate that clogs our
logic while trying to get out, I mean just imagine we are willing to feel
anything? It would be great because then nothing with remain in the mind,
feelings will be fully experienced and disappear making space for other
feelings to take place and this may lead to what we call being in the zone,
which we actually don’t have a problem with our selves anymore but we
react logically with the present task.
I my self talk a lot, most of my talk is not regarding the subject in
hand, its not really abstract but I talk what comes to mind. I
used to feel great and achieve more, when it comes to office life no one
puts effort to communicate which I don’t feel comfortable with what they
call professionalism at the work place. They keep having social events like
a fun day out and many others which most of the attendees just attend
because they have to; it feels like dictating what to feel, I mean its
called a “Fun Day”, what I mean is that it’s not real.
Commercials, Ads, TV, Movies and everything communicates feelings, is our
lifestyle totally faulty? For example in Advertising I think that
communicating benefits of the product is alright but telling us how to feel
is not alright. I like trading because even though I see the historical
trend on the chart I still know that my actions have to be generic and
relative to simple probabilities which makes me feel good all the time
because even though there are losses I know that I am doing the right thing
because what is happening is within my probability range, what I mean is
that my feelings are derived from logical a process and not from the profits
at the end of the process.
Maybe writing to you makes me feel good and that is why I am doing so; you
must be a good receiver.
Something I noticed in the movie “Fight Club”, I like this movie because
it points out that no one is special but what we do is; another idea it
communicates clearly is that we should always let our feelings out and
experience our feelings.

Getting Hot
Ed,
I recently took part in a Tribe and took myself to the hotseat for my first
time. I know that I have many knots built up within me and I want to work on
them to attain my right livelihood. So I sat down in the hot seat and was
encouraged to feel my feelings.
I went through
many forms and much heat. Hot hands, feet, legs etc. But I reached a form
that I was uncomfortable in feeling. I became excited and physically aroused
in the hot seat. Then I felt embarrassment at this feeling so tried to mask
it and Fred was in control.
I went through these forms again and did reach a point where I hit some
AHA's but don't feel I could fully approach the zero point.
I am now scared to
go back into the hot seat if I again feel physically aroused and do not feel
this is appropriate in a group meeting.
Maybe by motioning
before the meeting that this happened before it will force me not to go
through that form again. It is an embarrassing situation to be in.
Do you have any
advice for me?

You
might consider taking your feelings about your own sexuality as an entry
point into TTP.

Breathwork
Weekend
HI Ed,
Can I attend the breath work work-shop you are planning in the first week of
July? Also, can I use that opportunity to attend the next Incline Village
tribe meeting as well?
Since we would not have our tribe meeting for the next two months, I was
hoping to get your tribe's help on approving my next snapshot.
|
I
occasionally host Breathwork Weekends for Workshop Graduates who wish to
extend and help document the work.
See
the link, above to follow the results of the May 8-10 Breathwork in Incline
Village.

Synchronicity
Hi Ed !
Thursday night the IV Tribe teases out some live housing issues while I am
on the hot seat.
The next morning I read an email from our landlady informing us she would
like to sell the house, so she would like us to move out. I notice the time
and date stamp on the email: Thursday 8:34 pm. She writes and sends it as my
hot seat concludes.
Hmmm ...
|
It
all happens now.
